A third of Ukrainians fled their homes during a full-scale war – IOM data

In the two years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 14 million people have fled their homes. This is almost a third of the population of Ukraine.

This data was published by the International Organization for Migration. According to IOM, Russian aggression has forced many Ukrainians to seek refuge abroad.

— More than 14.6 million people — 40% of the total population of Ukraine — will still need some form of humanitarian assistance in 2024. At the same time, 2.2 million refugees need assistance in neighboring countries, — the message says.

The International Organization for Migration noted that about 3.7 million people still remain internally displaced, and almost 6.5 million Ukrainians have become refugees in different countries of the world.

More than 4.5 million more people returned home after traveling abroad or moving within Ukraine.

The IOM says the organization is committed to protecting the most vulnerable and is supporting reconstruction efforts in Ukraine by rebuilding housing, water and heating systems, and providing health services.
