A tangible blow to aviation: the GUR commented on the attack on the Soltsy airfield

Russians still can't understand that the war against Ukraine is a huge mistake. Moreover, even his own shortcoming did not teach the enemy to hide strategic aircraft, in particular at the Soltsy airfield.

Andrei Yusov, representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, told Channel 24,that the destruction and damage to Tu-22M3 aircraft was a serious blow to the enemy. Stupidity in actions is undoubtedly present, but do not underestimate the Russians.

Russia is losing strategic aviation

As a result of the attack on the Soltsy airfield Russia has lost at least one Tu-22M3 strategic bomber, which is beyond repair. The Russians have very few such aircraft left, because since 1993 such a modification has not been made, and the production of new ones is not on the agenda.

Previously, 2 more aircraft were damaged. Yes, they can be restored, but by donation from other bombers.

This is a serious and tangible blow to the strategic aviation of the enemy, – the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

Russian aviation is not getting any younger. Not all of the available bombers can perform their tasks without problems. Serious maintenance is needed for every sortie.

Attacks are just beginning

According to Yusov, the Russians certainly have bungling. However, the enemy should not be underestimated. If everything were so easy, then our soldiers would have destroyed all strategic aviation and other enemy weapons long ago.

The enemy is working very seriously – special services, there are counterintelligence and countersabotage groups.

“The enemy is unable to provide adequate protection for its aviation and not only it. Due to the lack of resources, technologies, qualified personnel and of course priorities,” Yusov said.

If Russia had not spent all the best efforts and resources for a war of conquest in Ukraine, they would probably have found time and money to protect their own infrastructure – the sky over Moscow, airfields, strategic aviation.

Attack on the Soltsy airfield: what is known

• On Saturday, August 19, an unknown drone attacked the Russian airfield “Soltsy” in the Novgorod region of Russia. During the attack, several Tu-22M3 strategic bombers were damaged. This is an aircraft carrying X-22 supersonic anti-ship missiles, which Russia is firing at Ukraine.
• In the morning, Russian Telegram channels began to spread footage of smoke over the Soltsy air base. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that a fire started there and traditionally blamed Ukraine for the attack.
• Subsequently, according to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, Russian troops began moving undamaged aircraft to the Olenya air base in the Murmansk region.
