A step in the opposite direction: why relations between China and Russia may worsen Dzvenislava Moshovskaya

Vladimir Putin is looking for allies, to be able to continue the war against Ukraine. Its main partners now are China and North Korea. Probably, Xi Jinping does not like the relationship that the Kremlin dictator is building with Kim Jong-un.

Political scientist, head of the Center analysis and strategies Igor Chalenko told 24 Channel that Putin is trying to balance in the foreign policy arena. However, he has few such opportunities, thanks to the effective cooperation of Ukraine with Western partners.

Russia in a difficult situation

World leaders are making efforts to isolate Russia from all spheres of civilized life. Putin has to establish cooperation with certain countries, in particular China. According to the political scientist, Russia is becoming a vassal of the PRC.

Putin really doesn’t like this. No matter how much people in Russia shout that they respect the Chinese people and their leader, they still want to cooperate with the DPRK. “Putin is trying to show that he has other capabilities,” noted Igor Chalenko.

China supplies Russia with machine tools for the military-industrial complex and supports the logistics of the occupiers. The political scientist noted that 70% of sanctioned products entering Russia come from China. However, this is all that Beijing is ready to provide to Moscow.

“Therefore, Putin is trying to get the resources he needs, in particular artillery, ballistic missiles, personnel, in North Korea, a de facto conflict arises between Pyongyang and Beijing,” Chalenko suggested.

Plans China

China supported Russia by preparing its own “peace plan” to resolve the situation in Ukraine. These actions, according to the political scientist, in the public sphere were aimed at ending the war.

Putin is delaying the troops of North Korea to Ukraine, for now engineering, but this may change. Such actions are obviously a step in the opposite direction. “This destroys all the diplomatic work that Beijing is doing,” he said.

Igor Chalenko added that if China is not happy with cooperation with Russia, it will be able to stop it very quickly.
