A Stalemate for Russia: How the New Syrian Government Humiliated the Kremlin Melania Golembyovskaya

The Russian delegation arrived in Syria for the first time since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad to discuss the preservation of its military bases, but the new Syrian government began to demand compensation. Russia cannot do this.

Political scientist Igor Reiterovich told Channel 24 about this, noting that the Kremlin will not return the Syrian dictator either, unless he is dead. The new Syrian government feels confident and knows that it can count on help from other countries.

Russia in a stalemate

The political scientist noted that the statement by the new Syrian government is an expected position, since Russia is practically an empty space for them now. The new government, in addition to compensation, also demands Assad. It is obvious that he himself does not matter to Vladimir Putin.

The main thing for the Kremlin is the stolen money of the Syrian dictator, which the Russian government has probably already managed to take for itself. Moreover, the Russian authorities can only send Assad's body, because he knows “too much” about Russians that he could tell the new government.

Here is a stalemate for Russia, because they cannot extradite Assad, they cannot return the money. In addition, the people who have now come to power in Syria are people whom the Russians tried to kill, and the relatives of those who were killed, who were shot from planes, – Reiterovich emphasized

According to the political scientist, Syria humiliated Russia and knows that if they need help, for example, humanitarian, then a large number of countries are ready to help. In particular, Ukraine is ready to help Syria with food. The Russians can't do that, because for them it would be a show of weakness.

Recall that the Constitution has been suspended and the parliament dissolved in Syria. Rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has been declared president during the transitional period.
