A slap in the face to Putin: why Orban’s visit to Ukraine is important Dzvenislava Moshovskaya

Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban arrived in Ukraine on July 2. This is the first visit in the last 12 years. He met with Vladimir Zelensky, they discussed many important issues.

Head of the Center for Military Legal Research Alexander Musienko said 24 Channel that our state’s relations with Hungary are difficult and not always friendly. In these conditions, the Ukrainian position, in his opinion, is correct, because it is committed to constructive dialogue and normal relations with this country.

Orban’s visit to Ukraine

Alexander Musienko noted that the meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Hungary is aimed at creating a stable peace in Europe. Orban's arrival is important and symbolic.

“Hungary begins its presidency of the Council of the EU, Orban goes to Ukraine, despite the reaction in Moscow. This is not just a courtesy visit,” he emphasized .

The head of the Center for Military Legal Studies believes that the visit of the Hungarian Prime Minister to Kyiv is not in Russia’s interests. Vladimir Putin would never agree with such a decision.

This visit can be perceived as a slap in the face to Putin, he said.

Positive results of the meeting

Alexander Musienko called positive results meetings Orban and Zelensky. He noted that first of all – this visit took place for the first time in a long time. Second– the Ukrainian and Hungarian sides found a common opinion on how to develop a constructive dialogue. Third – Vladimir Zelensky raised the issue of Ukrainian-language schools in Hungary.

Orban said that in his country such educational institutions will be opened as many as needed. I hope that this will be accomplished, because in all past years the question of opening only Hungarian-language schools has been raised,” emphasized the head of the Center for Military Legal Studies.

Differences between Ukraine and Hungary

Orban, during his visit to Kyiv, spoke about peaceful initiatives to resolve the situation in Ukraine. He stated that our state must offer a truce and cease fire and thus move towards the search for peace.

We (Ukraine – 24 Channel) We have experience that Russia does not adhere to any agreements. Orban is considering the possibility that Turkey or Hungary could be a mediator in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Musienko suggested.

According to him, the role of a mediator is not always the role of a partner. The leader of such a country should be able to communicate with President Zelensky and the Russian dictator Putin.

The aggressor country may probably seek a state with which communication has been established there to negotiate with Ukraine . For example, the president of such a country is Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“There are not many people who want to meet with Putin and talk about something. He is also not ready to meet with everyone. Hungary “Turkey or Saudi Arabia can become mediating countries between Ukraine and Russia,” he said.
