The Lithuanian Foreign Minister said that Putin is again preparing to win the war in Ukraine. The official called on the EU member states to achieve a single Victory Day, which will take place in Kyiv and be celebrated by all Ukrainians.

Gabrielius Landsbergis said this on the eve of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Affairs, reports the Channel 24 correspondent in Brussels.

According to the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Russian dictator Putin is again preparing to “kick up the dust” on his plans to defeat Ukraine.

“Seeing the discussions that are taking place in Washington, and seeing Europe's inability to militarily support Ukraine and increasing pressure on the Ukrainians at the front, I think he can happily start planning for this again,” Landsbergis told reporters.

He called on his colleagues to prevent Putin's plans from materializing. To achieve this, European leaders must continue to provide weapons to Ukraine .

Europe could ensure that the only Victory Day in this war takes place in Kyiv and is celebrated by Ukrainians. – the minister emphasized.

Gabrielius Landsbergis rejected the idea of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, this will not lead to the defeat of the Russian dictator, but, on the contrary, to his victory. The minister notes that it is impossible to hide from war and there is not a single “rock” in the world that could protect against it.

“If a truce does happen, and we try to promote it, that we defended Kiev, that we defended some territory of Ukraine, then it will be clearly clear that this is a victory for Putin,” said the Lithuanian minister.

Gabrielius Landsbergis also commented on the proposal of the ex-head of NATO to admit Ukraine into the Alliance “in parts.” The Lithuanian minister is confident that Ukraine should become a member of the Alliance, however, it is not worth making territorial concessions.

“Territorial integrity is something that should be sacred, and giving something for something should not work like that,” he stressed.

Gabrielius Landsbergis answered questions from journalists about whether he was concerned about the statements of Hungarian Prime Minister Orban and the new Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who oppose the continuation of assistance to Ukraine. According to him, these leaders do not support Ukraine's victory.

This is an ideological discussion, which boils down to the fact that one side is for the victory of Ukraine, and the other is not. Here, perhaps, it would be difficult to find any rational argument, but so far we have reached a consensus,” the minister said.

The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry also commented on the information about the supply of only 30% of the promised million ammunition to Europe. He doubts that the EU will be able to reach that figure by the end of this year as long as Russia receives ammunition from North Korea.

“The only excuse is that Europe provided additional ammunition and weapons for this. We are talking about a last push, a promise this year that has not materialized, and unfortunately I don't think it will materialize as long as North Korea does its part.” ” says Landsbergis.

The Lithuanian minister also mentioned the idea of creating a separate section in the European Peace Foundation for Ukraine. Earlier, EU High Representative Josep Borrell proposed allocating 20 billion euros over the next 4 years. However, according to the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, not all countries support this idea.

“There are some proposals being made that countries that do not want to take part in it could not take part in it. This means that my country, other countries that will participate, will bear a greater burden on their shoulders,” – added. He.

Gabrielius Landsbergis said that negotiations on the twelfth package of sanctions are still ongoing. The EU is coordinating this issue with its G7 counterparts. However, these are still only the early stages of the discussion, since the proposal has not yet been mowed down for consideration.

Most likely, it (the package of sanctions – Channel 24) will become weaker, but today it is a pretty good package, considering that a lot of time has passed since the previous one was adopted,” the minister said.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that the European Commission's recommendation to begin negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU will activate the process of EU enlargement. In addition, the EU continues to provide military support to Ukraine. Borrell also spoke about this on the eve of a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers.

The EU's chief diplomat called on EU member states not to forget about the war in Ukraine amid the conflict in Gaza. He stressed that the struggle in Ukraine continues.

“Kiev was attacked. Russia attacked several civilian ships in the Black Sea corridor that were transporting grain. Our support is growing and it has reached the level of 27 billion in military support. This is the highest figure we have ever reached,” Borrell said.

According to him, the EU also continues to train Ukrainian soldiers. Amid active discussion of the war in Israel, Borrell asked not to compare the conflict with the war in Ukraine.

The perception of the world needs to be taken very seriously and accusations of double standards avoided,” he said.

The EU High Representative also welcomed the decision of the European Commission, which recommended starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. Borrell believes that this process is intensifying and Kyiv has contributed to this.

“This will create a movement and push a whole line of people waiting to join. There is an obstacle for Serbia – Kosovo. But the dynamics that Ukraine has created on the path to membership will affect the whole process for all candidates who are in a kind of impasse,” Borrell said.
