This was reported by 24 Channel candidate of political sciences, international affairs expert Stanislav Zhelikhovsky, noting that the conflict with Russia may expand. If the Kremlin achieves its hypothetical “goals” in Ukraine, the next victims could be the Baltic countries.
The West is preparing
Zhelikhovsky noted that concerns about the expansion of hostilities beyond Ukraine are also heard from other EU and NATO member countries. There is a high probability that Vladimir Putin will continue to try to destabilize the situation on the European continent. The first targets of aggression, in his opinion, may be the countries of the Baltic region.
These states are now doing everything possible to strengthen their defense capability and security , even despite economic difficulties. They are doing everything to help us (Ukraine – Channel 24), and then themselves, because they may be next in line,” the international affairs expert emphasized.
Countries that may be subject to potential Russian aggression, members of the Alliance, in particular Germany and Sweden, are strengthening.
Sweden is very actively involved in the defense of the entire bloc and this is a serious signal. For us it is positive, but for Putin it is not. The Baltic Sea region is being militarized, because they are aware of all the risks that come from Russia, said Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.
He emphasized that it is important that there are further steps to increase capacity NATO countries and increased assistance for Ukraine. Russia does not stop its aggression against our country. There are risks of new offensive operations from the Kremlin.
Security agreements
The countries of the Baltic region have already begun to sign security agreements with Ukraine. Such an agreement, according to Zhelikhovsky, already exists with Latvia, and then there should be Estonia and Lithuania. Ukraine is already preparing for agreements with the countries of the Scandinavian Peninsula, because they have a powerful defense complex to conduct joint exercises and exchange technologies and experience.
