A second special operation may begin in Israel – Sharpe on the difficult situation in the country

by alex

The confrontation between Israel and Hamas has continued for many months. However, there is no talk of its completion yet. Although the parties are holding negotiations that may end in a truce.

At the same time, hot spots are observed in two directions – in the Gaza Strip and northern Israel. About this 24 Channelsaid military observer from Israel David Sharp, adding that in the north the war is “heating up” on a slow fire.

The offensive continues underground

Today, Israel is considering the possibility of launching a large-scale operation against Hezbollah, which operates from Lebanon.

If there is no political solution, and there is a chance of this, there may be shifts on this front within a few weeks. Either a political decision, or a second special operation may begin in Israel, the military observer emphasized.

Combat continues in the Gaza Strip, in particular in the city of Khan Yunis, where the combined arms phase is ending operations.

Above ground, the Israeli army has operational control over this city. It is the capital of Hamas in the south, which has an area of 55 square kilometers. At the same time, underground the offensive continues through tens or even hundreds of kilometers of underground tunnels. it is also believed that Israeli hostages are being hidden there. That is why the Israeli army does not use anti-bunker weapons,” Sharp emphasized.

Bad from a military point of view view

In the end, everyone is waiting to see whether the hostage exchange agreement will be accepted. If so, then this agreement provides for a long ceasefire – at least 40 days.

This is very bad from a military point of view. However, in Israel they are ready to do this in order to free their people, the military observer is sure.

Now the agreement has not been accepted and, accordingly, the last stronghold of Hamas is the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, located on the border with Egypt, not attacked. Through this city, contraband is transported from Egypt through Hamas tunnels, in particular weapons.

Rafah has not yet been attacked due to US pressure, because the interests of the United States do not always coincide with interests of the allies, in this case Israel.

“The United States, due to its own electoral alignments, wants a ceasefire at the first stage. If an agreement on hostages is concluded, then Rafah, apparently , will not be attacked before that,” suggested David Sharp.

Hezbollah

The name of the group translates as “Party of God” or “Party of Allah” . It denies the existence of Israel and seeks its destruction. Hezbollah is both a Lebanese Shiite paramilitary Islamist organization and a political party. Since October 2023, the situation in northern Israel – on the border with Lebanon – has significantly worsened due to Hezbollah's actions.

The situation in Israel

  • Previously, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant stated that fighting could begin in the north of the country between the IDF and Hezbollah.
  • Galant noted that Hezbollah militants will “begin to act” very soon. Therefore, Israel strengthened its group in the north.
  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also noted that Israel could go to war with Hezbollah if necessary. He believes that Hezbollah “was seriously mistaken in 2006” (when the Second Lebanon War began – Channel 24) and is also mistaken now.
