“Bayraktar” became the most popular weapon of the Russian-Ukrainian war. There are legends about it, they compose songs, and almost every child knows its name.

The Turkish “Bayraktar” is a strike, operational-tactical drone, which has become a real horror for the occupiers since the beginning of a full-scale invasion. It can circle in the air for more than a day, looking for targets. When it finds it, it drops aerial bombs and guided anti-tank missiles.

This drone is manufactured by Baykar, which is owned by two brothers. It was founded in 1984 and has since become a very powerful player in the arms market. The Bayraktar family, who own the company, was able to turn it into such a technological giant.

By the way, one of the members of this family, namely Selcuk Bayraktar, who is the technical director of the corporation, concurrently is the son-in-law of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Bayraktars appeared in Ukraine long before after Russia started a full-scale war. Kyiv and Ankara signed an agreement on the purchase of these drones at the beginning of 2019, and already in 2021 this drone flew in the East of our country.

Tactical and technical characteristics of this “bird”:

  • Length – almost 7 meters.
  • Wingspan – 12 meters.
  • Maximum takeoff weight – 700 kilograms. These are all the weapons that can be attached to its wings and hull.
  • Maximum speed is 220 kilometers per hour, and cruising is 130.
  • Can stay in the air for 27 hours.
  • The maximum height is over 8 kilometers. “Bayraktar” is considered a medium-altitude vehicle.
  • Operating range of use: from 150 to 300 km. It all depends on the modification.

They are equipped with a high-precision optical aiming system, have infrared and electro-optical laser rangefinders. This allows the drone to uncompromisingly hit enemy targets.

2 guided laser-guided anti-tank missiles are attached to the Bayraktar. Or 4 planning high-precision bombs of different types. Some of them are even capable of hitting moving targets.

The digital drone system has all the advanced solutions needed to carry out “surgical attacks”. This prevents damage to foreign objects and minimizes the loss of both civilian infrastructure and the population. Especially when the enemy is hiding in places where the risks of civilians are very high.

Pay attention! “Bayraktars” have repeatedly proved their effectiveness, having more than 400 thousand hours in their account in flight. This is a summary of data collected from various operators involved in various wars and conflicts around the world.

Of course, drones will not replace full-fledged aviation. However, in third countries like Ukraine, drones can partially compensate for the lack of a large number of strike aircraft. Nevertheless, these systems effectively destroy tanks, artillery mounts, multiple launch rocket systems, and, as the practice of the war in Ukraine has shown, even Russian boats.

Thanks to modern systems, an operator can monitor the situation in real time, and also distribute images to other users. Breaking this system will not be easy. It generates temporary passwords and encrypts data so that the enemy cannot intercept the drone and see what the Bayraktar operator sees.

Baykar companies note that Bayraktar is a highly thought-out design and high-tech system that combines all the solutions and capabilities necessary for the operator to complete the tasks.

It can perform reconnaissance, surveillance and, of course, attacks. Despite its wide functionality, Bayraktar is quite easy to use. The on-board avionics kit provides it with autonomous control, takeoff, landing and cruising.

Today, this drone is produced for 16 countries, and after the effectiveness of these drones on the battlefield in Ukraine, there will obviously be more customers.

It is interesting that Bayraktar in mainly used by such countries as Azerbaijan, Morocco, Tunisia, Qatar, and none of the European ones. In 2021, Poland decided to buy a little more than 20 of these “birds”. It became the first NATO country (other than Turkey itself) to receive such weapons.
