Why Bakanov was fired from the post of head of the SBU/Channel 24 collage

“Probably, the president expected Bakanov to analyze why the situation developed the way it did. But we did not receive this analysis,” – explains Mykhailo Podolyak.
According to him, the investigation is ongoing, we are talking about general analysis of what happened in all our regions after the start of the Russian invasion.
“But in parallel, the president wants to get effective management of such an important structure as the SBU, precisely during the war – this should be effective management”, sums up the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office.
Personnel changes in the SBU are important
- On the evening of July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed decrees on the dismissal of the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov and the prosecutor general Irina Venediktova.
- Bakanov was suspended from duty under an article on improper performance of official duties, “which led to loss of life or other grave consequences.”
- On July 19, Parliament voted to dismiss Bakanov. There were 265 people's deputies in favor.
- The head of state also dismissed Volodymyr Gorbenko, deputy head of the SBU, from his post.
- A number of other heads of the SBU department in different regions of Ukraine also lost their jobs.
