Personnel changes in the SBU are important

  • On the evening of July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed decrees on the dismissal of the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov and the prosecutor general Irina Venediktova.
  • Bakanov was suspended from duty under an article on improper performance of official duties, “which led to loss of life or other grave consequences.”
  • On July 19, Parliament voted to dismiss Bakanov. There were 265 people's deputies in favor.
  • The head of state also dismissed Volodymyr Gorbenko, deputy head of the SBU, from his post.
  • A number of other heads of the SBU department in different regions of Ukraine also lost their jobs.
