A plane from Moscow, heading to Istanbul, made an emergency landing at Warsaw Chopin Airport. This happened on Sunday evening, September 8.

Thus, the Airbus A320 plane of the Turkish airline Pegasus took off from Moscow on Sunday, September 8, at 20:00 local time. The flight itself was heading to Istanbul, but over Polish territory the pilots rerouted it to Warsaw.

Therefore, the Airbus made an emergency landing at Warsaw Chopin Airport. The reason was technical problems with the Airbus navigation system.

It is known that all passengers were sent to the non-Schengen zone of Warsaw Airport, where a special zone was allocated for them under the control of Polish border guards and airport security.

There, the passengers waited for another plane, which had already departed for Istanbul. This happened at around 04:00 on Monday, September 9.

The closure of airspace, in particular for its air carriers, was one of the first restrictions imposed on Moscow after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

However, passengers from Russia can enter the territory of the European Union, but only on board non-Russian-registered aircraft belonging to other companies. The only exceptions are humanitarian and search-and-rescue flights, as well as the need for an emergency landing.
