A number of specific demands: Republicans are ready to support assistance to Ukraine, but there is a “but”

Congressman from California Mike Garcia issued a statement in which he cited a number of demands for the Biden administration to accept the Ukraine aid package. If they are fully implemented, the Republicans will agree on funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mike Garcia put forward a number of demands for the Joe Biden administration, if fulfilled, the Republicans would agree to continue military assistance to Ukraine. The statement said that the presidents of the United States and Ukraine must provide a detailed plan – a “victory strategy” that will contain accurate assessments, the ultimate goal and criteria for ending the war.

Republicans demand that Joe Biden and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin report on the progress of the war, the progress of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the updated situation on the offensive of the Defense Forces, and must report on the reasons for the “delays.”

Garcia demands information about weapons being supplied to Ukraine and how they will help in the war. A separate list should concern weapons that were not in the hands of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but could potentially change the situation at the front. The White House must also convince that funding for Ukraine does not jeopardize the US arms program, but aid from Israel and Taiwan does.

According to the statement, Joe Biden must also explain what will happen if aid to Ukraine is stopped. And will partners in NATO and the European Union stop funding the Armed Forces of Ukraine? A separate point concerns the view on the issue of Crimea – whether the United States accepts its probable return.

Separate requirements also apply to the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance – they must report on the status of compliance with Russian sanctions. The US and NATO must approve economic restrictions, which must include all types of oil, grain and rare earth minerals.

• On October 19, US President Joe Biden announced an aid package for Ukraine and Israel worth more than $105 billion. It was planned to allocate $61.4 billion for Ukraine.
• Republicans, including newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson, do not support this approach to security funding for the United States and allies. They presented their plan, separate aid packages. This could lead to a slowdown in decision-making on Ukraine.
• After his election, the new speaker of the House of Representatives said that assistance to Ukraine could be provided “under certain conditions.” Johnson said he wants accountability and clear goals from the White House.
