In the Netherlands, a new coalition government officially began work on July 2. It started working 7 months after the parliamentary elections in the country.

The new government was headed by former intelligence chief Dick Schoff. He took over the post of Mark Rutte, who had previously been head of government for 14 years.

Sixteen government ministers, including the prime minister and deputy prime ministers, officially took the oath of office on the morning of July 2 at the Huis ten Bosch palace in The Hague. The ceremony took place in the presence of King Willem-Alexander.

Before the ceremony, the King and Dick Schof signed official decrees appointing him as the new Prime Minister. It is interesting that the new head of government does not belong to any party and was chosen for the role of prime minister as a compromise figure.

Previously, in mid-June, after six months of coalition negotiations, Wilders' Freedom Party, the center-right liberal VVD, the centrist New Social Contract and the populist farmers' party BBB reached an agreement on the distribution of key positions in the new Dutch cabinet.

The post of Minister of Defense was given to the liberal party VVD, which is represented by the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte. The ministry was headed by Ruben Brekelmans.

The center-left New Social Contract party received four ministerial positions, including the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. This ministry will be headed by Caspar Veldkamp, a former ambassador to Israel and Greece.

It is interesting that the head of the far-right Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, was unable to get a seat in the government, despite the fact that that his party took first place in the parliamentary elections. This was also a condition of the coalition agreement.

Previously, NATO officially elected Mark Rutte as the new Secretary General of the Alliance, who is a supporter of Ukraine. Rutte will officially take up his post in October 2024, and before that he will take a three-month break after leading the Dutch government.
