The US has provided Ukraine with a new aid package containing weapons. But the delivery of weapons will take longer.
New weapons for Ukraine will come from manufacturers, not from US stockpiles. This was stated by White House spokesman for security and defense John Kirby at a briefing, channel 24 informs.
How quickly weapons from the United States will arrive
According to Kirby, the new aid package will use funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI – Channel 24) allocated by Congress. This will allow the Biden administration to purchase weapons from its manufacturers.This is the first time that we have announced a purchase through USAI for Ukraine. In general, delivery takes longer, but this does not mean that the possibility of delivery through the presidential powers has been exhausted, or that we will not see additional packages through this mechanism, which, as you know, come directly from warehouses and can get into Ukraine very, very quickly,” the White House spokesman said.
Kirby stressed that the speed of new deliveries depends on whether defense companies have pipelines that are already working on weapons, what capacity they have and how long it may take to adjust schedules if necessary.
By the way, the delivery of surface-to-air systems and radar systems takes longer.
U.S. aid tranche
The US will provide the Armed Forces with a new $3 billion aid package. This is Ukraine's largest security assistance tranche to date.
The new Ukrainian defense assistance tranche includes:
- 6 additional Advanced National Air Defense Missile Systems (NASAMS) ) with additional ammunition for NASAMS;
- 155-mm artillery ammunition up to 245,000 rounds;
- 120 mm mortar ammunition up to 65,000 rounds;
- Up to 24 anti-artillery radars ;
- Puma Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Scan Eagle UAS support equipment;
- VAMPIRE Anti-UAS Systems;
- Laser Missile Systems
