A hurricane swept through Ukraine: trees felled, settlements without power

On the evening of July 7, a thunderstorm front with strong winds covered the western part of Ukraine. The elements swept through the territory of Bukovina, Lviv, Rivne and Prykarpattia, causing numerous destructions and power outages.

Rivne region

As reported by the Chairman of the Rivne Regional State Administration Oleksandr Koval, a powerful hurricane hit the region. The Dubensky district suffered the most: it is preliminary known about damage to the roofs of more than 10 residential buildings.

Rivneoblenergo is currently collecting information on the scale of power outages. Not a single person was hurt during the bad weather. The head of the region assured that he is in constant contact with all responsible services.

Residents of the Rivne region are urged to be extremely careful. It is recommended to avoid being near power lines, large trees or advertising structures, not to touch torn wires, and in case of an emergency, to contact rescuers.

As of 10:00 p.m., 13 settlements were left completely without electricity, and three more were partially without it. In total, 2,553 subscribers were left without power throughout the region.

Chernivtsi region

In Chernivtsi Oblast, the bad weather also caused serious damage, the State Emergency Service reports. According to local authorities, on July 7, as a result of a sharp deterioration in the weather, cases of destruction of residential buildings, critical infrastructure facilities and transport routes were recorded.

In Chernivtsi itself, rescuers went to five different addresses to eliminate the consequences of the hurricane. Emergency services also worked in the Chernivtsi and Vyzhnytskyi districts.

As of the morning of July 8, clean-up operations are still ongoing in five populated areas of the region.

Lviv region

The patrol police of Lviv region reported numerous cases of trees falling due to gusts of wind. Police officers are involved in eliminating the consequences of bad weather and, if necessary, regulate traffic.

Law enforcement officers urge citizens to observe safety rules, not to approach torn wires and fallen trees. If danger is detected, immediately call the appropriate services. The importance of careful driving during bad weather is noted.

On Tuesday, July 8, hot weather will still persist in Ukraine. However, the influence of Cyclone Gabriel is expected, which will bring heavy rains to some regions.
