A group of Republicans put forward 12 conditions to Biden for further assistance to Ukraine

by alex

Eight U.S. House Republicans have called on President Joe Biden to separate additional funding for Israel from a larger package that includes money to help Ukraine.

This is stated in a letter published by Congressman Mike Garcia.

The signatories raised concerns about potential delays in funding for Israel, saying the vast majority of Congress in the House and Senate supported separate funding considerations for the two countries.

The letter notes that Israel and Ukraine must win their wars, which is “understandable.” But the text argues that “American taxpayers are tired of funding the endless stalemate in Ukraine with no vision of victory.”

Among other things, they put forward conditions for the further provision of assistance to Kyiv. To reassure US citizens, Republicans are offering 12 “reasonable and rational” conditions without which it is not worth sending money to Ukraine.

12 conditions from a group of US Republicans for further assistance to Ukraine

  1. Zelensky and Biden must provide Congress with a clear strategy for victory. The words “we are with you until we win” is not such a strategy.
  2. After defining the strategy, you need to name the price for its implementation.
  3. Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin must clearly communicate to the US people the state of the war in Ukraine: current progress, reasons for lack of progress, and updates on the spring counteroffensive.
  4. The authorities must explain what weapons are provided and how they will help win the war.
  5. The US should provide Congress with a list of weapons that were not given to Kyiv, but which would be effective in breaking the impasse.
  6. Provide an explanation of what will happen if US investment stops: Do we believe that EU and NATO countries will also abandon these efforts? Will Ukraine be able to survive and win? If not, why not?
  7. The US Departments of the Treasury and Commerce must report to Congress on the level of implementation and compliance with the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation.
  8. The United States and all NATO members should impose new sanctions against the Russian Federation, which will include all oil, grain and rare earth minerals.
  9. The Biden administration must clearly explain why the resources it is asking for are the right ones to win.
  10. Make discussions on Ukraine's operations in Crimea public. And also regarding the feasibility of the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
  11. Biden and Zelensky must provide Congress with a full accounting of the weapons systems that have been deployed and used to date.
  12. Biden must ensure that his rule does not jeopardize the weapons needs of the United States itself, programs for Taiwan and Israel.

What is known about the aid package for Ukraine and Israel?

On October 20, it became known that Biden had submitted a request to Congress for a $106 billion package of military assistance to Israel and Ukraine. It would also include assistance to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Newly elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that providing new aid to Ukraine and Israel should be considered separately, and not as one package.

On October 31, White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby suggested that Joe Biden might veto the US budget bill if it does not include funds for aid to Ukraine.
