A game to intimidate Europeans, – a journalist about a possible complete shutdown of Russian gas in France

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mer said that Russia could turn off gas completely, so the country should prepare for this. Experts say that this is how the terrorist country wants to intimidate the Europeans.

This was reported to Channel 24 by French journalist Maxim Sokolov. He stated that, in fact, Russian gas is no longer supplied to France.

According to him, today France is not receiving anything from Russian gas through the branch line from the PP-1 branch.

I don’t know if this information is true, but they say that this is due to repairs on the Nord Stream 1 branch, or is it just such a game of Russians to intimidate Europeans in the summer, – Sokolov said.

He says that there is information that Canada will provide a turbine to Germany, and in turn – a turbine to Russia, so that it can repair the Nord Stream 1 branch. But, according to the journalist, this gas is more important for Germany than France.

“In fact, France receives only 17% of the total volume of Russian gas . And the country receives most of its gas from Norway, Algeria, Qatar,” Sokolov noted.

According to him, France is a diversified country in this regard and there is no hype about the shutdown of Russian gas. “Perhaps it's summer now. So we'll see how it will turn out for France in the fall,” he replied.

The journalist added that from January 1, 2023, the government will not freeze electricity tariffs and gas. so prices will go up.

However, this helped earlier, when gas prices rose around the world – they did not rise in France then due to subventions. “It cost the budget 12 million euros, and many believe that this helped Macron win the election,” Sokolov said.

France's position in relation to energy carriers: briefly

  • Back in April, Emmanuel Macron said that France does not need Russian gas. The President said he supported the embargo on Russian energy.
  • The country also urged European partners to stop importing Russian oil.
  • Subsequently, Macron said that France intends to be the first major country to phase out oil, gas and coal.
  • It was previously reported that France would no longer receive Russian gas because of the German pipeline. This happened due to the “physical cessation of the flow between France and Germany”.
