In Melitopol, for several weeks, the Russians have been trying to disperse the panic, claiming that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will attack civilian infrastructure and the population. This has nothing to do with reality, but only propaganda, which they are trying to drive into fear of Ukrainians.
Ivan Fedorov, mayor of Melitopol, spoke about this on air on Channel 24 . According to him, from the beginning, the Russians spread these conversations in the markets and in the courtyards of multi-storey buildings. Then they publicly began to prepare bomb shelters, but only for themselves.
Ivan Fedorov noted that the Russians had begun construction work in the bomb shelter of the former regional department of the SBU, the tax inspectorate, the agricultural university and the palace of culture.
But we clearly understand that they are preparing these bomb shelters not for the civilian population, but only for themselves, because they are afraid of our defenders. Fedorov emphasized.
Two days ago, they began posting announcements around the city that there would be rocket attacks from the Armed Forces of Ukraine on civilian infrastructure so that our residents would not go far from bomb shelters,” the Mayor of Melitopol recalled.
He added that the invaders are trying to drive our residents into a panic. After all, in fact, no one is going to behave like, for example, the Russians with Kherson. All day long they are shelling civilian infrastructure and thus destroying our cities. Our desire is to return to Melitopol, which will not be destroyed, but will be without the Russians.
Fortifications in Melitopol
“Unfortunately, the Russians have chosen our city as their logistic and administrative center. And today they are building a fortress out of it. They have already made several echelons of trenches from different sides, starting from the direction of Vasilyevka, Berdyansk, and directly the Kherson direction itself,” – Ivan Fedorov said.
The mayor of Melitopol said that the Russians are starting to build entire underground cities. For example, in the village of Novonikolaevka, they bury sea containers in the ground and build a whole city. There they are going to hide or shoot back – it is not clear.
We can also say that there are some military bases in Melitopol, because the entire temporarily occupied city is a continuous Russian military base. They hide in kindergartens, schools, vocational schools. We cannot even say that there are no Russians in any building today,” Fedorov said.
“For example, they recently occupied another kindergarten in Melitopol – the headquarters of the FSB is now set up there. They also arranged a large number of training grounds around Melitopol where they train their mobilized,” the mayor added.
