A court in Amsterdam sentenced the ex-footballer of the Dutch national team and Moscow Spartak to six years in prison for participating in the smuggling of 1,350 kg of cocaine Quincy Promes.
The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported this, noting that the prosecutor's office asked for a nine-year prison sentence for the player.

Promes did not appear at the trial of his criminal case. The player will probably remain in Russia for a long time after such a verdict. The prosecutor of the Netherlands was unable to achieve his extradition, and the football player is not going to leave the terrorist country voluntarily.

The court concluded that Promes' primary motivation was financial gain.
— Although he is a professional football player and earns a lot of money, his track record shows that he wanted to earn even more money, — says the decision.

The cocaine smuggling occurred at the end of January 2020. Two shipments were hidden in a cargo of bags of sea salt on a container ship from Brazil. The smugglers were able to unload one shipment weighing 650 kg. The second shipment weighing more than 712 kg was intercepted by customs.
Quincy Promes played 50 matches for the Netherlands national team, in which he scored seven goals and gave the same number of assists.
