The evacuation convoy included 42 buses at once. The mayor's office of Mariupol said that a record number of people were expected to be evacuated.

The evacuation column was accompanied by Red Cross and State Emergency Service vehicles. Many people also joined in their private transport. The Russians did not want to let the Mariupol residents out of Berdyansk. However, by peaceful assault they managed to overcome the resistance of the invaders.
