Since the start of the full-scale war, 33% of Kyivans who previously spoke Russian switched to Ukrainian. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted in the application “Kyiv Digital”.
Research was conducted from 17 to 31 January. More about the survey informs Channel 24.
Poll results
In the Kyiv Digital app, to the question “Are you switched to Ukrainian during the war?” 60,336 people answered. The results are as follows:
- 33% – yes,
- 13% – no,
- 46% – no, I speak Ukrainian for a long time.

Note that 86% of respondents called Ukrainian their native language. But Russian is only 12%.
47% voted that habit prevents them from switching to Ukrainian. About a quarter of respondents believe that Ukrainian culture is not sufficiently popularized in society. Meanwhile, another 21% of Kyivans answered about personal fears and insecurities.
In addition, the majority of respondents, 79%, are sure that the environment is the best way to start communicating in Ukrainian. About 11% more answered that films, music and cultural events help. However, only 4% of respondents pointed to the language laws.
Pay attention! As noted in the Kyiv City State Administration, the results of the survey will be used to develop the City Concept for the approval of the Ukrainian language in all areas of public life in the capital.
