A series of earthquakes occurred in the Philippines. The most powerful tremors were recorded near the island of Mindanao.

On Saturday, December 2, a series of 22 earthquakes occurred in the Philippines within 3 hours. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), there were earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 5.0 to 7.6.

What is the situation in the Philippines

The epicenter of the powerful earthquake lay at a depth of 39 miles (about 63 kilometers). According to preliminary data, there were no injuries or deaths.

Horrifying footage from the scene is being circulated on social media. In one of the videos you can see how people caught the earthquake in a nightclub and shopping center. Many of them panicked. Some tried to hide behind strong objects, while others ran screaming from the premises while various objects fell everywhere.

What are the consequences of these earthquakes?

A series of earthquakes can cause a tsunami. It is expected in Japan and the Philippines.

Therefore, residents of coastal areas were urged to evacuate. In the Philippines, a tsunami of more than 3 meters is expected, and on the Pacific coast of Japan, wave heights could reach 1 meter.
