Ukrainian swimmer Alexander Zheltyakov failed to reach the semi-finals in the 100-meter backstroke .
In his qualifying swim he showed a time of 54.32 seconds — this is only the 24th result.

Zheltyakov competed in the third heat in the qualification. The 16 best athletes from all the heats reached the semi-finals.

The Ukrainian showed the second result in his heat — 54.32 seconds, losing only to the representative of the Netherlands Kai van Westering (54.21 sec).
However, Zheltyakov failed to reach the final. In the next two heats, only two athletes showed a worse time than the Ukrainian — so he became only 24th.
The Hungarian Hubert Kos won the qualification, the world champion in the 200m backstroke. He swam the 100-meter race in 52.78 seconds.
This is Zheltyakov's debut Olympics in his career. He will also swim in his main discipline, the 200 m — qualification scheduled for Wednesday, July 31st.
