Iran doesn't have time to build cooperation with Russia today as the country is feverish with internal protests. Tehran's dialogue with Moscow could harm the long-term plans of the Iranian leadership.
Iran will be able to supply military assistance to the Kremlin through intermediaries. Military expert Oleg Zhdanov told about this.
The expert believes that it is not profitable for Iran to cooperate with Russia today due to internal problems.
Iran has huge internal problems. It cannot be said that this is a revolution or that these rallies will turn into a revolution, but it has already reached the point that a large territory of Iran is engulfed in protests. There is already a violent confrontation – the army uses firearms, wounded and killed, protesters use hammer cocktails and stones, – the observer explained.
According to him, the scheme for selling Iranian drones to Russia could include intermediaries , including terrorists from Hezbollah.
“This scheme can work. Because of it, the Iranian military will sell these drones. Moreover, in such a situation, this process can continue. Regarding Iran's open support of Russia – here I have very doubts. If the religious leaders of Iran manage to hold on to power this time, then I think they need an economic boost to stabilize the situation,” Zhdanov is convinced.

In his opinion, this can be expected only after the nuclear agreement with the United States, which guarantees Iran access to international markets “in the white”, receiving a net profit and increasing the flow of foreign currency to the state treasury.
“Today, there are about 12 billion dollars in various frozen accounts , which Iran did not receive for its oil when sanctions were imposed on them. I think that Tehran will really want to get this money back. Joining Russia in this case is the last step that the country's leadership wants to take,” Zhdanov summed up .
Iran supplies drones to Russia: what is known
- The fact that Russia could get Iranian drones was discussed in the media back in the summer. In particular, it was reported that the White House had information that Iran could supply attack drones to Russia.
- At the same time, Iran denied this, and Foreign Minister Nasser Kanaani assured that Iran would not supply Russian weapons, including drones.
- However, already in early August, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Iran could send the UAV to Russia for field tests. And, they say, the Russians began training with Iranian drones.
- On August 30, officials from the Joe Biden administration told reporters that the Russians had taken some of the drones from the Iranian airfield and had already delivered them to Russia.
- Already in September, the Ukrainian military began to shoot down Iranian drones, which the Russians mark with other brands.
- Due to the use of Iranian drones, President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Foreign Ministry to respond to this. Subsequently, Ukraine decided to deprive the Iranian ambassador to Ukraine of accreditation and reduce the personnel of the Iranian embassy.
- At the same time, Tehran denied all accusations and started talking about “external influence” on relations with Ukraine from third countries.
- Subsequently, Ukraine responded to Iran's position, emphasizing that the only “third party” is the Iranian drones that the Ukrainian Armed Forces shoot down in our skies. Kyiv is confident that only Tehran bears full responsibility for the destruction of relations with Ukraine.
