Law enforcement officers detained a 17-year-old boy in Southport, Britain, who attacked people with a knife. The victims of the incident were children.

Reports of the attack appeared at about 11:50: then the police were called to Hart Street. It was noted that an incident had occurred there, as a result of which several people were stabbed.

According to locals, the man “ran and stabbed people.” As a result of the attack, at least 8 people were hospitalized, including children. Merseyside Police, where Southport is located, confirmed the arrest of the attacker.

The suspect was later identified as a 17-year-old boy.The Banks teenager will remain in police custody for questioning. Officers also confirmed that the incident was “not being treated as terrorism related.”

Enquiries are ongoing at this early stage to establish a motive for this tragic incident and we would urge people not to speculate while investigations are ongoing, the force said.

The victims were reportedly taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby Hospital.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer also responded to the incident in Southport, calling it “terrible and deeply shocking news.”
