Ukraine is considering several types of fighters to create a new air fleet. In addition to the F-16, it could also be Eurofighter Typhoon jet fighters, as well as French Rafale aircraft.
This was stated by the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Yuriy Ignat, on the air of the United News national telethon, commenting on the statement of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with a Portuguese TV channel that Ukraine needs at least 160 fighters.
– You know, I even spoke to French television about 200 aircraft, because there are training aircraft, and there are combat ones. Those 128 – it was about the vision of the Air Force model until the end of 2035 and there were four brigades, with about that number,” he said.
The Air Force spokesman noted that serious consultations within the framework of the aviation coalition and the Ukrainian authorities and the military are working to ensure that Western partners provide us with fighters.
– Because 160 is not such a big figure for such a large state as ours, – said Ignat .
Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, in an interview with the French edition of Le Monde, said that in addition to American F-16 fighters, Ukraine is also interested in receiving French-made Rafale multi-role fighters.
