The occupiers hoped that this data would help them bypass Ukrainian air defenses during future attacks.
The SBU got ahead of the enemy's plans: the spy was detained in May 2024 while collecting information near one of the potential targets. The perpetrator turned out to be the head of a local company that employs sailors on fishing and merchant vessels.
During his arrest, his phone was confiscated, containing evidence of cooperation with Russian intelligence.
The court found the agent guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law) and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment.
The investigation was conducted by SBU officers in the Odessa region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
