Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg responded to allegations that the social network puts profit over the safety and well-being of users. He wrote about this in his account on the social network.
According to him, the firm “deeply cares” about issues such as safety and mental health of people. Zuckerberg noted that accusations of greed and ignorance of user interests are meaningless, as Facebook has created an industry-leading program to understand such problems. He also stressed that if the company did not care about combating harmful content, they would not have hired so many people to deal with this issue. “It's just not true,” Zuckerberg summed up his response.
At the same time, the head of Facebook added that he is “saddened” when the company's achievements are presented in a bad light. Regardless, Facebook “will continue to try to do things right,” he said.
Previously, former Facebook manager Frances Haugen said that the social network is deliberately distributing content that incites hate. According to her, the social network deliberately distributes a huge number of publications that cause such strong emotions as anger and hatred, as they attract and retain users, make them spend more time on the site, which ultimately leads to an increase in the company's profits.
