Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the platform cares about the safety and mental health of its users, and the accusations of the former employee of the company, Frances Hogen, do not make any sense. Earlier, Ms Haugen said at a hearing in the US Congress that Facebook does not sufficiently fight disinformation, hate speech and inappropriate advertising for minors, giving preference to profit.
Mr. Zuckeberg wrote in his post that the company cares about “issues such as safety, well-being and mental health.”
“If we wanted to ignore research, why would we create an industry-leading research program to sort out these important questions? If we didn't care about combating harmful content, then why did we hire so many more people to do it than any other company in our space? ” – he noted.
The head of Facebook added that at the center of Ms Haugen's accusations are the arguments that the company prioritizes profit over the well-being of people and promised to showcase Facebook's efforts to ensure safety.
Previously, former Facebook employee Francis Haugen spoke to US congressmen and accused the company of prioritizing profit over the public interest. While working at Facebook, she secretly copied the company's internal research. They lie there about progress in fighting the spread of prohibited content, violence and misinformation, she said.
