Apple Corporation at the annual conference for developers WWDC 2021 presented new operating systems for the iPhone and iPad – iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. The broadcast was conducted on the company's website.
Access and privacy
Most of the new features relate to privacy and access terms. For example, now it will be possible to add people to iCloud who can help unlock the device from their smartphone, while they will not have access to the account itself.
In new versions of operating systems, the App Privacy Report will appear – a special screen that will show which applications have access to user data and how often they collect it. You can find it in the settings. Mail and Safari will start hiding the device's IP address automatically.
FaceTime as a competitor to Zoom
FaceTime will become available outside the Apple ecosystem. For video conferencing, you can create links like in Zoom: schedule a meeting and send a link to it to friends or colleagues who can join the call even from an Android or Windows device. The service will support screen sharing mode. Users will also be able to listen to music together.
The update will support popular streaming services such as Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO Max, and Apple Music.
Priority notifications
Users will be able to choose the “do not disturb” modes: “work”, “personal” or “leisure”. In each mode, they will only receive certain notifications. Also, iPhone owners will be able to filter notifications based on their mood. The filtering function of notifications and applications can automatically adapt to the user's habits. The “Notifications” service will filter messages by priority and leave at the top those notifications that the system considers important.
Siri offline
Siri voice assistant will be able to work without the Internet. We are talking about executing certain commands related to local functions – for example, you can open an application, play a song, set a timer, or take a note. Due to the fact that artificial intelligence itself analyzes the request, comparing it with the built-in database, and does not contact Apple's servers, the process of command execution has noticeably accelerated.
Smart “Wallet”
The Wallet app can be used in place of keys at hotels with which Apple has an agreement. For now, this feature is only available in the United States. It will be possible to upload your documents to the application, for example, a driver's license. It is planned that in the future, the application will be used at airports, which will replace paper IDs.
