Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, a key ally of Donald Trump, has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This statement was made a day after Zelensky met with Trump.
The New York Times writes about this.
Senator J.D. Vance, speaking in Newtown, Pennsylvania, began his speech by criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He noted that Zelensky visited the ammunition factory in Scranton together with the state governor, Josh Shapiro, a Democrat.
“He came to campaign with the leadership of the Democrats of this country. We spent $200 billion on Ukraine. You know what I would like Zelensky to come to the United States? Say thank you to the people of Pennsylvania and everyone else,” he said.
According to the New York Times, during his visit to the plant, Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States for its support, noting that the plant's employees saved millions of Ukrainians. In his social networks, he emphasized that in such places one can feel how the democratic world can win.
It is worth noting that Senator J.D. Vance, who previously spoke out against aid to Ukraine, called Zelensky “too radical” in a recent interview for The New Yorker due to his statements about giving up territories in exchange for a peace agreement with Russia. Vance, in turn, criticized the Ukrainian president for his position.
Recall that the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, said that the Ukrainian Ambassador to Washington Oksana Markarova organized President Zelensky's visit to a weapons factory in Pennsylvania in order to support the Democrats in the election campaign. That's why he demands Zelensky to release her immediately.
