According to the Ukrainian president, if China wants, it can force Russia to stop the war.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Beijing has never condemned Russian aggression, at least not publicly. Volodymyr Zelensky called on China to put pressure on Russia to force it to end the war, in which thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have been killed for the third year.
The Ukrainian president said this in an interview with French media, AFP reports.
“If China wants, it can force Russia to end this war. China wants peace and has influence. I don't want Beijing to be a mediator, I want it to put pressure on the Kremlin,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
The West believes that the economic support China has provided to Russia has allowed its military-industrial complex to get on a war footing. This was made possible by providing Russian defense enterprises with the necessary components of Chinese manufacture, which were in short supply for weapons production.
Although the Chinese authorities have never condemned the Russian invasion, Beijing has repeatedly stated that it supports the territorial integrity of all countries in the world, including Ukraine.
Recall that, according to the Prime Minister of Italy, China is currently not interested in supporting Russia's industrial potential. George Maloney, noted that, according to Xi Jinping, “China always seeks peaceful coexistence between peoples.”
