President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a conversation with Pope Francis. The topic of the talks was the difficult humanitarian situation in our state, provoked by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.

The head of state informed about the details of the conversation in his Twitter account.

The President noted that he had told the pontiff about the blocking of humanitarian corridors in Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine would welcome the mediating role of the Vatican in resolving the humanitarian situation.

– Talked to Pope Francis. I told His Holiness about the difficult humanitarian situation and about the blocking of the rescue corridors by the Russian troops. We would welcome the mediating role of the Holy See in ending human suffering. Thanked for prayers for Ukraine and the world, — Zelensky stressed.

As you know, the Pope has always supported Ukraine. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian troops, the pontiff personally visited the Russian embassy in the Vatican and met with the ambassador. Pope Francis expressed concern about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Later in his sermons, the Pope called for an end to the devastating war in Ukraine and recalled Mariupol, which is constantly shelled by Russian troops. The Pontiff called Mariupol a martyr city.

Pope Francis also addressed the leaders of states, urging them to make every effort to end the war in Ukraine.
