Zelensky signs law on conscription of reservists

by alex

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on the conscription of reservists for military service. On Wednesday, April 21, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Zelensky's office explained that the law introduces a new type of military service – service for the conscription of persons from among the reservists during a special period. It will affect citizens who have entered into contracts for service in the military reserve or enrolled in the military operational reserve. The decision to carry out such a draft will be made by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the proposal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The law will make it possible to quickly replenish military units with reservists in order to increase their combat effectiveness during military aggression and promptly respond to sudden threats to national security, the authorities assure.

On April 20, Zelensky turned to Russian President Vladimir Putin and invited him to meet “anywhere in Donbass where there is a war.”
