The head of state answered which of Putin's demands would be unacceptable for Ukraine.
At least 200 thousand European peacekeepers will need to be deployed in Ukraine to prevent a new attack by Russia.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on January 21 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, DW reports.
After reaching a ceasefire agreement, Ukraine will need at least 200,000 European peacekeepers.
“200,000 is the minimum. This is the minimum, otherwise it is nothing,” Zelensky said.
He also noted that such forces would only be part of the security guarantees that Ukraine needs.
According to him, Russian President Putin may make a possible demand to reduce the Ukrainian army by five times.
Zelensky noted that reducing the Ukrainian army by several times will be one of the important issues during the likely negotiations on to the world.
“This is clear: if we were able to create an army of more than 800 thousand, then we plus Europe is an army that is capable of not only defending itself, but also of fighting back against Putin… This is what he wants. We will not allow this to happen,” the president said.
Earlier, military expert Mikhail Zhirokhov named the reason why peacekeepers cannot be introduced into Ukraine. According to him, peacekeeping operations are possible only with the consent of both parties, and Russia will never agree to this, since it is not beneficial to it.
