Speaking at a summit organized by JP Morgan, the Ukrainian leader said that Ukraine will become a member of the EU in 2 years.
The President is convinced that Ukraine has every reason to do so.
Today there are some pessimists among world leaders who believe that Ukraine needs 10 years to become an EU member. But they know us to a greater extent and sometimes even fear our spirit, our energy. Therefore, we see that we can be in the EU in two years,” the head of state said.
At the same time, Zelensky recalled that Ukraine needs security guarantees. And the best guarantee for Ukraine will be membership in NATO. Zelensky believes that over time Ukraine will join the Alliance.
“We believe that we will be in NATO before all the leaders decide that our security guarantee package is correct. Because they make decisions slowly, this is bureaucracy … And I believe that after the victory we will be in NATO,” Zelensky said.

President European Council Charles Michel stressed that Ukraine is now going through an important path of reforms and will definitely join the EU. Perhaps this will happen even in the next 2 years. This is possible provided that:
- the political will to accelerate is strong,
- there is confidence to carry out the necessary reforms.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmihal also shares the opinion that Ukraine's accession to the EU will take 2 years. Back in January, Shmihal said that Ukraine was completing the implementation of 7 recommendations that would allow launching the process of gaining membership by our state. Then he also noted that the amount of work that our state should do and has already done is colossal.
