For negotiations between the president and the US administration, a secure satellite phone is used.
The US continues to maintain regular contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky via a secure satellite phone that the US provided to the Ukrainian government before the Russian invasion.
CNN writes about this, citing an informed American official.
Previously, the most secure communications went through the embassy in Kyiv. As the US prepared to evacuate the embassy as fears of a Russian invasion were mounting, the US handed over a phone now being used by Ukrainian authorities.
The secure phone allows Zelensky to stay in touch with the US during his travels, the official added. Zelenskiy has made it clear that he intends to stay in the country, and he is now moving to several safe and secure locations in Kyiv.
The speech of the Ukrainian President before the European Parliament on Tuesday, March 1, was transmitted via video broadcast from an inconspicuous room, decorated only with the Ukrainian flag.
The US provided a similar satellite phone to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kulebi, the official said. The phone requires electricity, but can run on a generator or car battery.
At first, it took the Ukrainians several days to set up the satellite phones, as the instructions for use were in English, not Ukrainian.
Recall that on Tuesday, March 1, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with US President Joe Biden.
