Zelensky explained why Putin actually replaced Shoigu with Belousov

Adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak commented on the reasons for the dismissal of Sergei Shoigu from the post of Russian Defense Minister.

Putin’s main goal was to eliminate a potential conspiracy of generals, behind which Shoigu could stand together with former Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

Adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak said this in a commentary to Channel 24.

He believes that the appointment of former First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Belousov to the post of Russian Defense Minister should not be overestimated.

“Belousov, who became the head of the Ministry of Defense, is given too many advances. However, this is an ordinary, banal assistant to Putin, nothing more,” noted the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office.

According to Podolyak, the main reason for personnel changes in the Russian government was Putin’s desire to protect himself from a possible conspiracy of the generals.

“Putin removed the potential conspiracy of the generals, which could have been backed, for example, by the same Shoigu together with Patrushev. Putin removed the “Politburo 2.0.” – he explained.

Mikhail Podolyak emphasized that the main blow was directed not so much against Sergei Shoigu, but against Patrushev, who previously held the post of Secretary of the Russian Security Council.

“In my opinion, the main blow was on Nikolai Patrushev, and not on Shoigu. It’s just that Shoigu was already so “zero” that he made such a replacement. But for Putin the main thing was to remove Patrushev, who, on my opinion has already dominated,” noted the advisor.

Podolyak emphasized that Putin actually became Patrushev’s shadow, and not vice versa, and this is what prompted him to make personnel changes in power structures.

Recall that earlier Mikhail Podolyak explained that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin made a number of personnel changes in Russia, but the chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov retained his post, after all, he is the only person in Russia planning a war strategy.
