Ukraine has officially filed a lawsuit against Russia with the International Court of Justice in The Hague, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on his Instagram account.
“We demand that Russia be held accountable for distorting the concept of genocide to justify aggression. We ask the court to immediately order the Russian Federation to cease hostilities and schedule hearings next week,” the head of state wrote.
On Saturday, February 26, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that the country will seek condemnation of Russia's special operation in Donbass at the UN General Assembly (GA). She added that Moscow could veto the resolution, but it would not be able to “veto our votes, the truth, our principles, the Ukrainian people, the UN Charter.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation in the Donbass, specifying that Moscow “will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.”
