The European Union has done a lot with its own hands to escalate the situation in Europe. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the correspondent of “Lenta.ru” reports.
Zakharova said that the EU handed over to NATO “the lion's share of its military sovereignty,” and this bound the EU countries with the demands of unconditional solidarity on an anti-Russian basis from the Northern Alliance. “Perhaps the head of European diplomacy has forgotten that it is the alliance that remains“ the foundation of their defense. ” In this regard, Borrell's concerns about not participating in the negotiations on security guarantees are incomprehensible, ”the spokesperson added.
Zakharova commented on future talks on security guarantees in Geneva. “The Russian side will present detailed assessments of the current intolerable situation in the field of military security in Europe. For further steps, we will be determined depending on the readiness of the United States and NATO for a substantive conversation on our legitimate concerns, ”the diplomat said.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman urged the EU not to engage in “such gymnastics in the field of rhetoric”, to strengthen security in Europe and to urge Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Moscow and NATO and the United States on security guarantees in Europe. The document says that Washington should not create military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not NATO members.
EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell called Russia's conditions “completely unacceptable” and noted that it was “a purely Russian agenda.”
