The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova in an interview with Gazeta.Ru told about the celebration of the New Year in the ministry.

“We are anti-corporate. Before Covid, we had a tradition: we got together by the department, we came up with the program ourselves, we threw off ourselves and arranged evenings on one of the last days of the outgoing year, ”the diplomat said, noting that the main event for the Foreign Ministry on the pre-New Year period is usually a reception for Russian and foreign journalists.

According to her, such techniques “are always associated not only with the solemnity of the moment and the New Year's mood”, but also with skits, response sketches of journalists, as well as interesting conversations on foreign policy and international topics. Zakharova stressed that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tradition was almost interrupted, but last year the reception was still held, albeit in an online format.

This year, representatives of the ministry made a preliminary assessment of the epidemic situation and nevertheless held a reception, organizing the seating of the guests in a special way. Due to the situation with COVID-19, there were fewer journalists at the reception than usual. “But the atmosphere was fantastic and the reception lasted four hours. There was just a real extravaganza: songs from the Foreign Ministry pool, poems, video congratulations. They took away their souls, ”added the representative of the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, Zakharova congratulated Russians on the New Year, wishing them peace and prosperity, but did not forget to congratulate politicians – in particular, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden, as well as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
