The talks between Russia and the United States on security guarantees will be held on January 10 in Geneva, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a briefing. The broadcast is published by RT.
Since there is no alternative to the selected date, it is likely to become final. The diplomat added that the agenda of the talks includes two draft agreements on security guarantees, the non-advancement of NATO to the east and the non-deployment of offensive weapons in countries close to Russia.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published the draft agreements of the Russian Federation with NATO and the United States on security guarantees in Europe. The document, in particular, says that Washington should not create military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not NATO members. The United States also did not recommend using their infrastructure for any military activity and developing bilateral military cooperation with them.
EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell called Moscow's conditions “completely unacceptable” and noted that it was “a purely Russian agenda.”
