The incidents occurring in Afghanistan are of concern to the Russian Foreign Ministry; Moscow, in contacts with the Taliban government ( the Taliban movement is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia ), has repeatedly stressed that the use of violence against civilians is unacceptable. This is how the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova answered the question of the Lenta.ru correspondent about the clashes between the Taliban and the protesters and about the violation of women's rights in Afghanistan.
Speech, in particular, turned about the protest action on December 28, when the Taliban opened fire on the women demonstrating. Zakharova noted that she would not single out a specific case, since Russia has repeatedly condemned such actions both on the part of the Taliban and on the part of other governments.
At the same time, she stressed that the situation with women's rights in Afghanistan should be considered comprehensively. The Foreign Ministry spokesman believes that the delay in providing women with access to education is due to a lack of money. “It is worth noting the efforts of the government in this area: schools for girls are gradually starting to work, doors to universities are opening. The delay in this matter is due to the unavailability of the infrastructure in this country, the lack of funds to ensure separate education – it complies with Islamic law, ”she explained. In this regard, Zakharova called on Western countries to unfreeze national Afghan assets – about $ 9 billion.
Russian diplomats have repeatedly noted that the issues of poverty, misery and food shortages in Afghanistan have not been resolved, despite “endless financial injections and foreign military presence for more than 20 years.” Dealing with this is not easy due to the “elementary lack of financial resources.”
