The Malian authorities have the right to seek reliable partners to defend against terrorists, especially after the withdrawal of French troops from the country. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing broadcast by RT.
So the diplomat commented on the joint statement of 12 European countries – Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Canada, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, France, Czech Republic, Sweden and Estonia – which condemned the deployment of militants by a private military company ( PMC) Wagner in Mali. She recommended that the West read the communiqué of the transitional government, which refutes such allegations.
At the same time, Zakharova admitted that due to the closure of French military bases, there was a threat of loss of part of the territories by the Malian authorities. By this, she explained both the reaction of the authorities to what was happening, and the readiness of Russia to provide assistance to the Malians through the state line.
The Malian authorities themselves have turned to a Russian private military company to assist in the fight against terrorists, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. At the same time, he stressed that official Moscow has nothing to do with this.
