The decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CE) to suspend Russia's membership in this organization is politicized and speaks of the loss of its independence. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova.
According to her, Russia's military operation in the Donbass was only a formal pretext for the actions of the Council, and Moscow itself did not want such an outcome.
“Those who inspired and supported this flawed decision will bear full responsibility for the destruction of the common legal and humanitarian space on the continent, for the inevitable detrimental consequences for the Council of Europe itself,” Zakharova wrote.
She added that without Russia, the Council would soon lose its pan-European identity and also become a satellite of the “Western bloc.”
Earlier, Zakharova announced the approach of the point of no return in relations with the West. At the same time, she stressed that in the international arena Russia will continue to act on the basis of its own interests.
