The policy of the United States and Great Britain is classic war propaganda, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on her Telegram channel.
The diplomat recalled that such propaganda is prohibited by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted by a resolution of the UN General Assembly on December 16, 1966. It says that any propaganda of military action should be prosecuted by law. “Seemingly. But Washington and London have always been true to the main principle – the hands must be untied, ”Zakharova called the mistake of these countries.
The diplomat pointed to the “reservations” that the US and UK have made regarding this international document, allowing them not to adhere to it. Zakharova recalled that the pact was adopted at the height of the Cold War in order to “take humanity away from the abyss to which the military rhetoric of the NATO countries was pushing it.” According to her, Russia and dozens of states understand the importance of this document and want peace. “They, realizing the supreme danger that propaganda for war can pose, voluntarily abandon this threatening practice. But neither Washington nor London deprive themselves of the opportunity to bring a match to a haystack, ”she added.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the modern policy of the West is propaganda of war in its purest form. She accused London and Washington of supporting “managed hysteria” through the media.
Since the fall of 2021, the West and Kiev have been accusing Moscow of preparing an invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, the Kremlin stated that these statements were unfounded.
