Russian biathlete Olga Zaitseva explained the manipulation of doping tests with her love for caviar. This is stated in the motivation for the athlete's doping case published on the website of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
In court, Zaitseva tried to justify the increased salt level in the doping samples taken from her at the Sochi Olympics by the large amount of salty food in her diet. She stated that in Sochi she ate caviar and red fish, and sometimes even salt with spoons. The CAS considered the biathlete's arguments unconvincing.
