Video hosting platform YouTube, owned by US tech giant Google, announced Wednesday, September 29, that, as it expands efforts to combat misinformation, it will begin removing content that casts doubt on any vaccine approved in the world. This will affect all videos that say vaccines are dangerous or can lead to chronic diseases, said YouTube vice president Matt Halprin in an interview with Bloomberg.
A year ago, YouTube already banned some videos criticizing coronavirus vaccines. Since then, the platform has removed more than 130,000 videos for “violating YouTube's COVID-19 vaccine policy.”
“We continually see false claims about coronavirus vaccines spreading to vaccines in general, and now the time has come when it is especially important to expand the work that we started with COVID-19 in order to cover other vaccines as well,” it says. the official YouTube blog.
Blocking YouTube channels Russia Today
On Tuesday, September 28, the YouTube administration blocked two Russia Today channels in German. As Google's press service told dpa, RT DE channels were removed due to the spread of false information about the coronavirus.
“RT DE issued a warning for uploading content that violates our COVID-19 false information policy. This resulted in the suspension of their video publishing rights. During the suspension, channel owners tried to bypass restrictions by using a different channel; as a result, both channels were blocked for violating YouTube's terms of service, “Google said.
RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan called the actions of the video hosting “media war”, saying that she was “very much waiting” for DW and other German media outlets to be banned in Russia and the offices of German broadcasters ARD and ZDF closed. In addition, she demanded sanctions against YouTube itself.
