According to the new Russian law, which comes into force on October 1, 2021, free access to television channels of the first and second multiplex is introduced on the Internet.
We are talking about 20 channels, including federal ones. Roskomnadzor must decide on a single content provider.
It is noted that these will not be special Internet versions of TV channels, containing only content cleared for distribution on the Web, the unity of the content of TV channels in all distribution media will be ensured.
As a reminder, from January 1, 2019, Russia switched from analogue to digital broadcasting. Analog television works according to the principle: one channel occupies one frequency. With digital broadcasting on one frequency, you can simultaneously transmit a whole package of channels – a multiplex. The digital signal is not afraid of interference on the air, it allows you to connect various additional services for viewers: for example, teletext, voting during the broadcast of the program, etc.
