Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said about the striking unity of the positions of the United States, Russia and France on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. He said this, speaking on Friday, October 23, at the Washington Atlantic Council, TASS reports.

According to him, it is “very, very important” that the efforts of the United States are largely consolidated with the joint efforts of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group: France and Russia.

“This is one of the formats in which these three countries are largely united in their efforts and are largely coordinated and consolidated. This is exactly the format in which, despite the different diverging points of view between the co-chairs on many other international issues, there is a striking unity, ”Mnatsakanyan added.

He also stated that Armenia supports the idea of deploying peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. The minister believes that such a step would make it possible to reach a cease-fire and consolidate such a regime.

Armed clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) began on September 27. Yerevan and Baku accused each other of escalating the conflict. Mercenaries from Syria are taking part in the fighting on the side of Azerbaijan.

In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, the majority of whose population were Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan. Baku tried to return the region by force, after which a war broke out. In 1994, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), mediated by Russia, signed a truce protocol, but hostilities are periodically resumed.
